Kuwaiti bespoke fine jewelry designer May Al Qassar reconfigures the formal aesthetics of the Arabic script and transposes it into her jewelry, creating pieces with personalised narratives exclusive to its respective wearer.

All of May’s pieces are miniature abstract expressions of sentimentality that render her jewelry timeless in its intimate meaning to the client and the designer’s modern aesthetic sensibilities that transform semantics into gemstones, diamonds and gold.

While studying communication design at Pratt Institute in New York, May discovered her love for Arabic letters when she integrated the script into a design project to reinforce a stronger presence of her native language in her life while abroad. After relocating back to Kuwait, May translated this admiration into jewelry design, initially designing for friends and family in 2007 before finally launching her brand in 2010.
